I was talking to some of the guys on vent about this tonight, I'm just curious as to what you all think are some of the best shows on TV. It doesn't have to be a current show/series, anything goes. List what it is, brief description, and why you think it's great.
1. Dexter (Showtime) A sociopathic blood spatter analyst working for Miami Police Department is ironically a serial killer by night. The catch is that he only kills "bad people" and lives by a strict code, killing only those who fit the bill perfectly. Character development is great, has lots of dark humor, and the lead actor is pretty amazing. A bit of narration into what he's really thinking during normal day to day activities and conversations lets you know just how different he really is, it's like he's an undercover serial killer everywhere he goes. There has been 4 seasons so far, I've watched the first 3 and I'm waiting for the 4th to come out because I don't have Showtime.
2. True Blood (HBO) With the development of a new synthetic blood alternative designed to replace donated blood for transfusions, Vampires have decided to "come out of the coffin" and announce their existence to the entire world now that they don't have to feed on humans anymore. The world reacts differently, and some people find it appealing while others hate the very idea of vampires. The show takes place in a small southern town where Sookie, an otherwise regular waitress who has the ability to hear people's thoughts (but not vampires) gets involved with a group of vampires that likes to use her for their various ambitions. There is lots of dark humor, action, and sex in this show and it's just all around badass with a pretty amazing cast and lots of great character development.
3. Lie to Me (Fox) Dr. Cal Lightman is an uber behavioral psychologist specializing in body language, and he runs a company (The Lightman Group) that offers its services up as "lie detection specialists." It's a lot like Law and Order or CSI in the sense that each episode presents a new mystery they have to solve, or usually two at a time (they have multiple body language experts working for them) and it's pretty interesting. It's something that hasn't really been done before, and they have a pretty flashy way of focusing in on the signs people display when they are lying. I've always been into reading body language, so this show was right up my alley. Witty, often humorous, and often an intriguing mystery show... gotta love this one.
