bad news chaps.. no dedicated servers, or mod tools.. no competition.. game will use matchmaker (console style of private games).. someone will host it out of their basement.. cancel your pre-orders if you have them.. and sign the petition on IW's forums... there are 80 pages thus far of pissed of PC gamers..
this is totally effed up.. and I guess we need a new game to play competively... some are predicting that this will kill the clans in general. [ image disabled ]

Well I'm not gonna be getting this now. There will be no point to now. No dedicated servers? Limited to no modding? Count me out on going over to MW2. [ image disabled ]
I am kind of stuck in the middle on this to be honest. Here is my thinking.
IMO modding the game kind of sucks TBH. Right now with all the leagues we have PAM4, Promod, HC, certain weapons/perks ETC. IMO the game should be untouched from the way it was developed, at least for any competitions. I played COD2 and also COD4 on xbox 360 and it really wasnt bad at all, except for the controls and the pings.
Dedicated servers - This is really what sucks, but again I dont think it will be a huge deal. As long as pings are good on whatever servers they provide us, I dont see it being a big deal. I play QuakeLive which is a free FPS game, and its the same way. YOu can have a private match on a server located in VA/CHICAGO/NY/TX/CA etc etc, and you dont have to pay for it.. All the servers are provided by ID software, and you cant have your own. Its worked out quite well. So I dont see what they cant do something similar.
IMO as long as pings are good, I dont see any problem with this announcement.
I see what you're saying Fierce, and you make a good point. I've wrestled with this since I heard the news last night.
However I think whats hurting the PC community the most is that we are just that, communities. PC dedicated servers build communities. You know exactly where it is, you've got the IP, the clans name, the people who frequent that place and game and you feel at home. You build a rapport with the clan and enjoy your stay. It's hard to just change from that to the casual gameplay styles where nothing is technically "permanent", you don't have a home server. It would be like sports teams not having a home rink, or home court. You just play at random highschools all season long.
I get that I.W. wants to change things up, keep cheating/piracy out of their game. I just don't get why they feel the need to rip from the community what it loves most. Patch the Game, Give it support, and Give it respect and those issues are moot...
